My Experience Benefits Your Voiceover Project
My road to professional voiceover is not a straight path but one with quite a few curves, hills and even some roadblocks along the way. Each of these different terrains provided me skills and experiences that now benefit my voiceover clients today.
Raised On Radio
I started my professional career behind a microphone at the at age of 17 when I was offered the position as a week-end DJ for a local radio station in my home state of Minnesota. After high school I attended Brown Institute for Broadcasting in Minneapolis and became certified in radio broadcasting. Over the next ten yours I worked on the air at various radio stations in Minnesota and Wisconsin.
I found I had a passion for the production side of the business and chose to focus my talents on copywriting and producing commercials; taking on the position of Copy Director early in my radio career.
I loved performing behind the mic, but still felt something was missing. I returned to college to pursue my degree and graduated with a BA in Theatre Arts-Performance from the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire.
On Air To On Stage
After college, I decided to join the corporate ranks as a training specialist for sales and marketing teams. These positions allowed me to blend my skills in acting, writing and teaching, which became invaluable later as a narration and eLearning voice talent. Along with my copywriting background, I was also able to expand my writing skills to include training materials and eLearning course content. And of course, with my acting background and now training experience, I have been able to work both on the air as well as on the stage.
Reinvention In The Digital Age
With the start of the 21st Century, the economy was shifting. Positions in training and marketing were considered an expense, not an investment. The first layoff came in 2001, the second in 2006. It was time to make a change and reinvent myself in this new economy. I launched my marketing consultancy and dove headfirst into the digital age. I took all I knew as a traditional marketing professional and merged it with this new way of reaching consumers; blogging, social media, podcasting, video and other areas of content marketing.
Back Behind The Mic…On My Terms
But something was missing. I started my career behind a microphone and it was time to get back there, but now on my terms. Like so many, getting laid off was one of the best things that ever happened to me. By 2009 I had chosen to also launch my professional voiceover business. For the past 10 years I have built collaborative relationships with dozens of clients sharing my voice on projects from various genres: commercial, narration, eLearning, podcasts, explainer, live announcer and more.
My background of diverse skills and experience allows me to perform voiceover projects in multiple genres successfully and with an invaluable understanding of the various formats. All of my work aligns to one key element: it’s all about the audience. I look forward to partnering with you to bring your voiceover project to life for your audience.
